The Waikato Family Centre was founded in 1996 as a community response by mothers to the closure of the Plunket Family Centres in the Region.

A group of concerned families who believed this was a devastating decision that would leave many families and babies without adequate support, formed the Waikato Family Centre Trust and sought funding from charitable organisations.

Although funding has remained a continual problem, the Waikato Family Centre are proud to have managed to operate a successful free service to families throughout the greater Waikato Region for over 20 years.

We are incredibly proud of our long history, and the positive impact we continue to make across the greater Waikato.

Early intervention from our team helps alleviate postnatal distress, reduces family violence risk factors, assists with baby bonding and can keep family relationships functioning well.

Did you know?

In 2018 we provided support for 562 worried & tired mums, and cuddled 568 delicious babies.

Approximately 7 mums and babies come through our doors each day.

Our monthly Teen Parenting Information Evenings in 2018 had 121 visits - an increase from 87 visits the year prior.

Our Post Natal Distress Support Group helped 142 mums throughout 2018.

The Family Centre costs $368,000 to run annually.

Our team is made up of highly experienced and qualified nurses.

We are very lucky to also have volunteer GPs, Pharmacists and an amazing group of ‘Grandma Helpers’ who support our staff on a daily basis.
